Ready to Help – International Partnership for Elderly Assistance

The foundation Neue Kultur will participate in the international program "Ready to Help - International Partnership for Elderly Assistance", incorporated by the foundation “Remembering, Responsibility and Future”. Together with the “Polish Association of Former Prisoners and Concentration Camp Inmates”, the Documentation Centre Prora assists in the support and care of older people, especially older NS Victims of the Polish association “Wojewodschaft Wielkopolska”. The German and Polish partners

The goal of the activities is to build a honorary Support Care Network for needy NS victims. Honorary Helpers visit former Concentration Camp and Forced Laborers at their homes who are in need of assistance. They assist them in receiving medicine, going to doctor appointments, buying groceries or simply providing them with some company.

The elderly who cannot afford sufficient medical care, receive subsidies from the foundation “Remembering, Responsibility and Future”.
For the next couple of years our goals is to ensure that we can support at least 50 NS victims at a regular basis. Other institutions are also meant to contribute to the “Wojewodschaft Wielkopolska”, for example in supporting the elderly, the Victim Associations or Self Help Groups.

The “Polish Association for former Concentration Camp and Forced Laborer Inmates” is in existence since 1946. Earlier it had 600,000 members, now it is only 20,000. The association serves as a lobby for the former victims. It also has a social function in that it provides the now very old members with practical help and assistance.
The association also committed itself to the ensuring that the Federal Republic of Germany compensates the former workers.
