Foundation NEUE KULTUR

The foundation "NEUE KULTUR" was set up in 1990 - literally on the last day of the GDR - became one of the first Eastern-German foundations. Its concern is to accompany, protect, support and to communicate cultural developments in a continuous, radically changing environment.

The foundation’s committees aim at initiating a public discourse about cultural dangers, threats and future culture developments.

It is the radical change of circumstances in the re-united Germany that offers the society a chance of embedding these processes into the international context and that supports the search for a common identity. One of the aims of the foundation is to contribute to the democratic change of culture and to oppose to cultural threats.

In the context of changing cultural values, efforts must be made to enhance the growing together of heterogeneous traditions and life concepts– a process that may possibly lead to accepting cultural diversity.

 The foundation is apprehending with:

 - establishing an understanding of history which aims against disregarding the reminiscence and supporting a critical attainment of tradition.

 - establishing a responsibility for the future, which is against dogmatising the linear progress and sterile manner of life and which allows philosophising about a different future.

 - claiming for reason, which is against trivialising different concepts of life. and which supports a differentiating understanding of what has been recognised.

The foundation organises projects and events, comments on recent cultural tendencies and problems at conferences and symposiums.

The foundation enables unbiased observers to put the process of German unification into an international context. It is the foundation’s concern to open up the national interest for intercultural cooperation’s and to develop a critical-stimulating approach with partners from Germany and abroad.

The foundation can assist in fundraising, if the funds raised by a third party match the foundation’s regulations.

The foundation can give intellectual support for institutions, projects and initiatives as well as for single persons.
