An international travelling exhibition of the Prora Documentation Centre in cooparation with the Institut for History at the University of Turin and "Communicatio Humana Exhibitions", Prague.
The exhibition deals with the state leisure time policy in National Socialist Germany and in fascist Italy and introduces both state run leisure time organizations, “Kraft durch Freude” and “Opera Nazionale Dopolavoro”. It shows the methods and mechanisms used by both organizations to shift the border between privacy and public and almost delete privacy.
Quoting the example of Czechia the exhibition demonstrates how the National Socialists applied their leisure time policy also to the occupied countries and shows it as a part of war and propaganda policy of the “Third Reich”.
The presentation is meant to contribute to the destruction of the “shiny façade” (“Schöner Schein”) which was projected by the contemporaries particularly onto the leisure time policy.
Still many people consider the leisure time policy as the "positive side” of the respective regime, as a social achievement. And still today where the social question is taken up again not only German and Italian but also other European right-wing extremists and neo-fascists advertise with these “achievements” for a certain policy, above all with the state organized holiday trips at the time.
